Back in July, Melissa and I spent four nights at two glamping resorts in South Haven, Michigan. We spent the first two nights of our anniversary glamping getaway at Off Map Glamping. In this blog post, we talk about our experience there and some takeaways that we plan to apply to our resort.
Off Map is located away from major roads on a 75 acre parcel with woods and fields. Despite the seclusion, it was only about a 12 minute drive to downtown South Haven. The accommodations are canvas wall tents; some have bathrooms and electricity, while others don't. For the guests staying in bathroom-less tents, they offer a very nice bathhouse with private full-bath stalls. These guests also receive a rechargeable battery pack, enough to power fans and recharge phones. Overall, it's a bit rustic, but definitely still what we'd call glamping.
On the property, there is a two-dome home that has been converted into a welcome and reception center. Every morning staff provides a step-up from a continental breakfast. We were especially pleased with the homemade pastries, overnight oats, and yogurt parfaits. Experiencing this really confirmed for us that we too want to offer breakfast for our guests, knowing how nice it was to not have to worry about the first meal of the day.
The property also had a nice brick-paver community firepit surrounded by Adirondack chairs. The staff started and extinguished the fire each evening, and on occasion would have live music and/or bring out s'mores kits. While each site did not have its own campfire, there was one additional community firepit in another location for anyone who wanted more privacy. We would have liked to have seen private firepits, a little more wooded buffer between tents, and some more trails and activities onsite. That being said, we very much enjoyed our experience and felt that it was priced competitively for what was offered. Off Map is a great option for those looking to experience glamping for the first time in Michigan. And before we checked out, we managed to record this podcast episode.
